The Iron Suites Medical Centre is a clinic that specialises in the detection and treatment of iron deficiency with and without anaemia. Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies and the leading cause of anaemia globally. Recent research has shown that 1 in 3 otherwise healthy and active women in Singapore are iron deficient. Common symptoms are fatigue, hair loss and feeling cold; however, low iron levels can ultimately even lead to depression and/or other severe health issues.
1. 1) What is your personal mission as a doctor?
“First, do no harm” (or “primum non nocere,” the Latin translation from the original Greek). I strongly believe in the role of iron for maximising each patients’ quality of life and enabling them to reach their full potential. I help guide patients on the role of iron and therapeutic options available. I am actively engaged, along with our Panel of International Advisors and other partner doctors in Singapore, in conducting further research to better understand this nutritional deficiency and the benefits of early detection and treatment.
2. 2) What is the most interesting part of your job?
Seeing the positive impact that treating iron deficiency has on improving the quality of life of my patients.
3. 3) What attracted you to set up your practice at SBF Center?
The proximity to our target patient group, which are usually women that work in a corporate setting around the age of 35 (+/- 10 years). Additionally, the location is also highly attractive to most patients that do not work in the CBD as it is easily accessible by public transport.
4. 4) What is your advice to fellow health professionals in Singapore looking for a medical space?
It is key to understand your target patient group and choose your clinic based on proximity to these factors.
